14 days x 2,000 calories is 28,000 for two weeks. 10 pounds of fat is 35,000 calories. You have to run 15 miles over three sessions to burn one pound of fat.
She was setting herself up for failure. Hope, unfounded is dangerous.
Weight Loss is really a tough subject. Everybody wants it and few feel they actually have control over the process and their bodies. I have given webinars on how I lost 55lbs over 5 months doing the simple common sense thing nobody wants to do, eat less and exercise.
But just what does that mean?
After not being mindful for the past year and eating to my hearts content over vacation, I'm up 20 lbs again. I've tried several variations to my original formula and they have all failed to produce results.
Here's a rundown of what and what not to do.
A pound of fat is 3,500 calories.
You body needs 1,800 to 2,500 calories per day. If you take out 500 calories a day, that is about 1 pound a day of fat loss (7x500=3,500).
1 hour of good cardio workout will burn 600-1000 calories depending on your current level of fitness and what you are doing.
My friend wanted to burn more fat than her body needed to exist in two weeks. That's why body fat sneaks up on your slowly and takes consistent work on a longer period of time to burn it off and be rid of it.
When I was successful I was hitting the gym for a hour class, with warm up and cool down doing spin, kickbox, step, and even a few latin dance classes. I was going at least 4 times a week.
Last year we got a dog. I spent two months keeping my caloric intake at 1,300 and walking him for 1-2 miles 4 times a week.. I never broke a sweat. I didn't lose any weight and I didn't gain any weight. It was a good program for maintenance, not weight loss.
I have also experimented the Lemonade Master Cleanse and Juicing. The lemonade fast is about 400 to 600 calories per day. An excellent way to let your body clean itself out and give you a new perspective on eating and diet. My stomach also shrank and it took only a little food to feel full.
Afterwards I also noticed I was much better about choosing clean, vegetarian foods. I lost 10 lbs over 14 days. I try to do this several times a year when it won't interfere with my social calendar.
I have also been experimenting with Juicing. Doing a juice only (no exercise) cleanse will help you lose weight if you do not take any solid food and do not over do the apples, carrots and oranges. I met a 360 pound man who hit 294 at the end of 60 days of juicing only.
The downside of juicing is the amount of work it takes to buy, prep, make, transport, and clean all the tools necessary.
I try to juice or eat a big salad once a day for maintenance. But that is not enough for weight loss.
In the end, you have to do both, cut calories down by 500 to 1000 calories per day and get in 4, 60-minute hot, sweaty workouts. Its not about distance, its about being a hot sweaty mess by the end.
Lots of my clients tell me they hate to sweat. That is a limiting belief you are going to have to get over.
If you have a smart phone and a good pair of tennis shoes, you have all your need. Calorie counting apps are free. There is plenty of sidewalk everywhere to run on.
I loved my fitbit, but I do not wear it anymore.
If you really want to spend money on technology, first get a wifi scale. A scale measures water, body mass, muscle, bone, and fat. Water weight and whats in your gut can affect your weight by 6 pounds.
You can work hard and get your body burning fat and NOT SEE IT ON THE SCALE. You can also dehydrate and starve yourself and feel like a rock star to be down 5 pounds today and be up 4 pounds tomorrow.
Listen clearly, that is not FAT. That is water and food in your gut. Stay focused on the numbers, you cannot burn and consume 10,000 calories over a few days, no matter how big that death by chocolate cake was!
As you are dropping fat, you will also be building muscle that soaks up more water to make your stronger and improve your performance. You can go weeks on the scale and not see any losses.
The mind will trick you into seeing that as evidence to stop. Its not working. Give up, don't! You have to make a plan using the numbers, trust the numbers, and go for it. I guarantee it will work over time if you give it the time.
