I moved to Florida in 1999 to pursue a passion for scuba diving. I got tired of driving 9 hours one way to Lake Michigan to dive into 44 degree water.
Now I'm on a private yacht in 15 minutes diving with team of passionate people that love exploring and documenting shipwrecks of Miami.
I have been a professional salesperson for over 10 years. I've sold Enterprise class accounting software, Content Management Systems for websites and my last gig was selling visitor management systems, especially to guard gated communities (think Boca Del Vista, from Seinfeld).
I had a lot of windshield time and on a whim, I checked out a classic audio book, Zig Ziglar On Selling, from the library instead of just listening to Paul and Young Ron on the radio. The one takeaway from Zig was that less than 1% of college graduates read 500 books in a lifetime after college.
I set a goal of reading 500 books in 10 years. That is about 1 per week which was no problem at my current rate. I read classics, self help, business, investing, sexuality, emotional intelligence, religion and philosophy.
I completed my goal in just 7 years.

Two weeks later, WLRN/NPR was doing a story on Professional Coaching, featuring a new Masters level certificate course being offered at the University of Miami. I did some really quick soul searching.
My priest wanted me to be a priest, I have a deep spirituality, but no desire to manage a church. My mom wanted me to be a psychologist, it had always been a hobby of mine. But I didn't want to be diagnosing people's mental illnesses.
My passion was helping good people become great. That is what accredited coaches from the International Coaching Federation (ICF) do, they help people move from good to great in any aspect of their lives. I signed up the next day.
I am the father with twin boys who were 2 years old at the time. I also had a vision of being really present and available to them as a parent. I didn't want to make 6 figures as a sales road warrior anymore. I wanted to make a living and a life in the here and now. However, no one told me how challenging it would be to transform from an employee to entrepreneur!
After I started going to school, I also started going to gym to get into better shape. I weighed over 235 lbs at the time. Five months later, after an hour of cardio 5 times a week and only eating 1,300 calories I weighed 170 pounds.
Needless to say all this change, after being married for 7 years, sent my wife into shock. All this change turned the 7 year itch into a huge rash for our marriage.
What was normal and consistent was now a big unknown with changes happening everyday. If there was one thing I knew, from selling to accountants and marrying one, is that they hate change.
A lot of my beliefs got challenged, all at the same time. A giant stormed kicked up out of no where and coaching got me through it. Thank goodness I had 20 classmates to "practice" with because I practiced a lot! What I learned is that beliefs are the problem. They are what limit us and they keep us trapped in judgemental thinking mind set of right and wrong.
Beliefs takeaway the "balance" so many people are looking for. Beliefs are a deep, thick mud that creates the feeling of being "stuck”.
Getting honest with yourself about what you want and sharing that with those your live, work, and play with is the secret to how coaching works. It is NOT as easy as it sounds.
If anything, you should know that have been deep in the mud of belief and found a way out! Now I find great joy offering others a hand out of their beliefs and into a role of being the creator of their own lives.
So what's your story?
I'd really like to know how you got to where you are right now and where you want to go?
