Our lives now have an infinite amount of distraction. Happiness and feelings of accomplishment come from mastery.
Mastery is a paradox between to opposing forces
First you learn everything possible about a subject. Study from others who are masters. Eventually you realize that the subject is infinite and you get sucked into the never being able to know it "all".
2. Not Knowing
You forget about learning and practice. Do what ever it is you have a passion for and make it your own. Great artists always do something different, but have a look, sound, or style as a clue that you know it is "theirs".
Forget the rules.
Make your own rules.
Dare to be different. Stand by the difference and guard it with your life. The world will tell you they know and you are doing it wrong. Only after you face the trial of rejection will you earn the respect of they people who admire those who stand by their convictions.
That is why many artist die broke. They broke the rules of the day and it took a new generation to realize the contribution they made.
Any of the arts can take you there. You just have to choose which one you want to focus on? Which one is worth turning off TV, Facebook, and text chats to really go deep in a subject or activity you feel a passion towards.
Do you have the guts to go for broke?
